In particular, the World Health Organization (WHO) set the male fertility criteria in his sperm aspects, namely macroscopic where the volume of 2-5 ml, appear like cloudy white (pearl white), with normal thickness, normal, typical smell, melt completely in less than a hours, no more lump.

Prof. Dr. dr Wahyuning Ramelan SPand (Specialist Andrology) Brawijaya Women & Children Hospital said based on research carried out on the rough men who smoke do not smoke and the result is likely to have a man smoking a lower sperm than men who do not smoke.

The WHO criteria of good sperm quality, has a volume of between 2 to 5 mililiter (ml) in each outflow. In very fertile men have more than 200 million sperm cells in each outflow.

"Indeed, until now there is no formal research and accurate figures on the human influence on these cigarettes. But there are factors," said dr Ramelan, during the discussion titled “Mendambakan Punya Momongan (Crave to get a Baby)”, at Brawijaya Women & Children Hospital, Jakarta, Saturday (13/12) .

The same thing also happened on the research conducted on animals to test. In addition, the trend has a child with congenital defects also tended to increase compared to animals that do not try to be smoke exposure.

"We recommend avoiding cigarette exposure. Because we also do not know our sensitivity. Every individual is different backgrounds," he said.

Yoga and Pregnancy Benefits

By Michael Russell
Yoga and Pregnancy Benefits
Yoga is claimed to be a good exercise for everyone. Yoga is also a good exercise for pregnant women and provides them with many benefits. So whether you are pregnant or know someone who is, read on to learn the many positive benefits of yoga for pregnant women.

Yoga is a wonderful exercise for pregnant women and can be safely performed throughout the entire pregnancy. Some poses may need to be modified during pregnancy and poses where the woman is lying on her back or stomach should be avoided. The pregnant woman should also avoid any position or pose that does not feel right to her.

Yoga provides many benefits to pregnant women. Among those benefits of yoga are increased flexibility, more energy and stress relief. Yoga also helps the woman prepare for childbirth. This is done by the regular use and stretching of the muscles that are used in childbirth. In addition, the relaxation and breathing skills learned in yoga will help a woman throughout the labor and delivery of her child and may also lessen some of the woman's pains and anxieties.

As previously mentioned, yoga can play an important part in a woman having a relaxed, comfortable pregnancy and childbirth experience. However, the benefits of yoga do not end there. Yoga can also help the woman to get back into shape after pregnancy and will help to ease the transition into more physical exercise. And the benefits of yoga do not only encompass the pregnant woman; yoga can assist in the mental and physical development of the growing fetus.

Yoga exercises are not the only elements to focus on when performing a yoga routine. A complete, rounded yoga routine for a pregnant woman should include not only the yoga exercises, but also proper breathing techniques, meditation, deep relaxation techniques and mudras, which are yogic gestures. All of these elements of yoga will provide the pregnant woman with many benefits to aid in childbirth.

For the benefit of the pregnant woman, yoga exercises stretch the pelvis and reproductive organs to ensure a smooth pregnancy and childbirth experience. For the benefit of the fetus, yoga exercises provide the best possible blood and nutrient supply. The proper breathing techniques, or pranayama, will aid in the pregnant woman's overall fitness during pregnancy and will supply a rich amount of oxygen for the pregnant woman and fetus.

The benefits of yogic meditation to a pregnant woman are almost self-explanatory. It helps to calm and soothe the pregnant woman, dissolving away any fears and conflicts, whether pregnancy-related or not. It is also claimed to provide the pregnant woman with an unbelievable sense of awareness that helps her connect with her unborn child.

The benefits of deep relaxation techniques are also pretty much easy to understand. Deep relaxation, or yogic sleep, relaxes the pregnant woman both mentally and physically. It also better prepares her for the childbirth experience. The last element of a yoga routine, mudras and bandhas, is yogic gestures. These gestures are believed to have influential effects on the pregnant woman's reproductive organs, as well as any pains and ailments.

By combining all of the above elements of yoga, a pregnant woman can achieve and reap the benefits of a successful yoga routine. There are many books and websites available that provide acceptable yoga poses and positions for pregnant women. But as is the case with any other exercise, a pregnant woman should consult with her doctor before undertaking a yoga routine.

Twin Pregnancy

By Brian G Potter
Twin Pregnancy

Pregnancy as every one knows commonly terminates with the birth of a single child. However, while triplets are extremely rare, one in ninety pregnant women carries twins. Twins are most frequently born to parents whose ancestors have established this tendency but they are now becoming more common especially because of the growing use of infertility treatments. Reproductive technologies that assist with natural fertilization such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) often use ovulation-stimulating medications to produce multiple eggs which are then fertilized and returned to the uterus to develop.

Of course, that does not explain the cause of twins, which in reality can result from either of two circumstances. More commonly their origin depends upon the ripening of two eggs at about the same time and the fertilization of both by two different spermatozoa. The children, in this instance known as double ovum twins, or fraternal twins may be of the same sex or not. On the other hand, single ovum, or identical, twins are always of the same sex; this follows, when one egg and just one spermatozoon are concerned. The incident permitting identical twins to develop from a solitary ovum must occur soon after fertilization when the embryo splits in two. One third of twins born are identical, of the same sex and look almost completely alike as they will share the same genetic makeup

During the first trimester your 12 week scan ultrasound testing will show whether you have a twin pregnancy. The sonographer (medical professionals who operate the equipment) can even identify whether you are carrying identical or fraternal twins by measuring the thickness of the membranes which separate the two amniotic sacs (the sac in which the fetus develops) in your uterus.

The presence of a multiple pregnancy can be recognized during the latter months of pregnancy when your doctor may detect two separate fetal heartbeats, at other times, during prenatal tests, abnormally high levels of hCG, (human chorionic gonadotropin) a hormone produced by the embryo soon after conception, will be found. Although there can be other reasons for testing rates of hCG in most cases higher levels may well lead your physician to expect a multiple pregnancy in your case.

A twin pregnancy is generally regarded by the medical profession as carrying a higher risk than single pregnancies; that of course does not necessarily mean that you are liable to experience any problems. Most women with twin pregnancies will complete their confinement without problems and will deliver two healthy babies.

As with any pregnancy however there are always risks of problems arising now and then. The best advice you can get is to take care of yourself, attend all your antenatal appointments (even if you feel fine and don't think you need them!), ask questions, voice any concerns you may have and follow any advice from your GP or midwife. Don't put off seeing a doctor if you experience any unexpected symptoms and if you are not happy with your care ask to be referred to the consultant who specialises in multiple births at your local hospital.

Tips On How To Increase Fertility

By Benjamin Wise

If you've been experiencing trouble conceiving, you're not alone. Many couples are finding it difficult to get pregnant when they finally feel ready to begin a family. The causes can be physical or be related to stress.

In some cases, it is not necessary to pursue expensive infertility treatments. You may be able to conceive by trying some of the natural infertility treatments that are available.

Lifestyle

First, you should assess your lifestyle. There are many things you can change in your lifestyle that may help you become more fertile. Do you smoke or drink alcohol? Stop this now, and you may be surprised at how much these two habits affect fertility.

If you are female and love to exercise, you may be having problems conceiving because you have too little body fat. Having too little body fat (yes, it is possible) actually messes up your hormone production, so take it a little slower if you are hoping to add a new member to your family. Are you stressed? Try to establish what is stressing you and see what you can do to alleviate it.

Acupuncture

Increase FertilityAcupuncture has been shown to be very effective for some couples. It is inexpensive compared to going to a fertility clinic, and is non-invasive. A certified acupuncturist should be able to help you with a series of treatments. Acupuncture seems to help couples that have a functional problem rather than a physical problem.

To conclude do not over worry yourself. Simple treatments and changes in lifestyle could make all the difference for you.

How to Increase Male Fertility

There are millions of couples all over the world who decide each year to start a family. Sadly a large number of these couples will face some problem or the other in realizing their dream. Many will go to doctors to figure out what the problem is and they end up shocked when the figure out that nearly 40 percent of the couples will not be able to conceive because of male infertility.

Make sure that you eat healthily by consuming foods rich in zinc. Zinc is know to increase the production of sperm and you can get it through eating foods like seafood, eggs and whole grain cereal. In addition, a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables will help in sperm motility and the sperm will be able to find their way to the egg in your partner's vagina.

Stress to plays an important role in reducing male fertility and rather than spending your time sitting in front of the TV and consuming a lot of alcohol, you exercise for regularly for 45 minutes, 5 times a week. This will increase your sexual urge, improve the quality of your sperm and help you to keep fit and healthy on the whole.

How to Deal With Pregnancy Sickness

By Delayla Jayson
Pregnancy Sickness

Pregnancy sickness is probably the most unpleasing part in the pregnancy. Not being able to eat anything and feeling sick all day doesn't sound good to me. I want to share with you here few tips how to deal with pregnancy sickness and stop it. There are few good ways and remedies so let's start!

The usual remedies may not work for every pregnant woman but they are still worth trying. Ginger and peppermint - you can get them also in crystallized form, as candies or capsules. Lemon is also helpful and eating one peace of it can stop the pregnancy nausea instantly. Another fruits like apple, bananas will help you to deal with pregnancy nausea too.

Resting good is very important, at least 8 hours a night and maybe 1-2 hours during the day. Eating 6 small meals during the day will be wonderful because that way you won't be hungry and you won't have to eat a big meal and vomit it a few minutes later. Another tip is to stay away from caffeinated drinks because caffeine will only increase the pregnancy sickness - ginger tea can easily replace the regular tea you are drinking.

Another tip is to try the acupressure points technique which comes from the alternative Chinese medicine. By tapping with your thumb on the acupressure point in your body you will decrease the nausea in minutes. This method was used in hospitals to help people dealing with the nausea that comes after anesthesia. Only 5% of pregnant women aren't affected by this method so there is a very low chance it won't help you!

Link to the same post in the new blog: How Stress Can Harm Your Fertility

How Stress Can Harm Your Fertility

By Gabriela Rosa
Stress and Fertility
Stress kills, but it also creates reproductive havoc. These factors have been scientifically proven on both counts and felt by people everywhere. Stress can lead to headaches, stomach ulcers, and weaken our immune defenses. It can cause anxiety, depression, panic attacks and heart attacks-

The list goes on

However, did you know just how much it can decrease your chances of conception? Stress does negatively impact male and female fertility.

One of the most noticeable ways stress can wreck havoc on fertility is by dampening the romance factor. It can cause libido in both men and women to plummet. It can make one very tired and lethargic, and as we all know, lovemaking requires a certain amount of energy! Stress also makes people very cranky; and it's difficult for some to bond with their partner or become aroused when they're bombarded by negative emotion and thought. Sometimes stress makes us just want to be left alone!

However, stress also directly impacts the hormones and reproductive organs in both men and women. It increases the production of a chemical called cortisol, which in turn negatively affects sex hormones and the reproductive activity within the body. High levels of cortisol have been associated with infertility problems and weight gain.

Stress in men can create a condition called oxidative stress which results in low sperm count, weakened sperm motility, fragmented DNA within the sperm cells, and abnormal sperm. It can also cause impotence and ejaculation problems. Stress in women can result in a cessation of both ovulation and menstruation. (While menstruation can be unpleasant, it is essential for good female reproductive health.) It can negatively impact the chemical and physical processes of egg maturation and release. Even if an egg is successfully fertilized, stress can cause chemical changes and spasms in the fallopian tubes and uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. It can also cause miscarriage after successful implantation.

Unfortunately, couples faced with fertility issues often find themselves in an ugly cycle of stress on top of stress! Stress may be causing their infertility, which in turn causes disappointment and more stress, which keeps fertility further hindered. So what to do? How can you break the cycle? It's sometimes easier said than done, but stress must be dealt with if fertility is to be restored. Step one is to identify sources of undue pressure; write it down, make a list if you must. Once you know the sources you'll have a better idea about how to approach them.

Scientific research presented to the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology indicates that certain types of 'talk therapy' can reduce stress and increase chances of conception. Research at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) found that women who had ceased to ovulate regained fertility after cognitive behavioral therapy. Other research indicates that laughter can reduce stress and increase ones odds of conception. Below is a list of tactics to fight stress:

- Emotional Freedom Technique

An amazing relaxation tool with benefit--it can be used to 'turn off' (like a switch) practically any negative emotional that is currently afflicting you.

- Time Management

Schedule your daily activities in a way that you have time to really unwind.
Music--While cleaning house or cooking or just doing nothing, put on some music that heightens your mood, relaxes or soothes you (and your partner).

Massage

This is something you and your partner can do for each other. You don't have to be a professional masseuse; just the touch of the hands is soothing, reassuring and a sensuous prelude to lovemaking. However, a trip to a day spa for professional deep tissue massage is well worth it, and some spas offer couples' packages.

Yoga

Very effective for relieving stress! If you don't belong to a fitness club, you can rent or buy instructional DVDs.

Meditation

Carve out a quiet space in your day to silence mind chatter and do some deep breathing.

Talk It Out

If you don't have a trusted friend on board whom you can vent to, it may be worth it to see a counselor. It will allow you to let it all out and perhaps give you a fresh perspective.

Tea Time

Eliminate caffeine. Treat yourself to a relaxing herbal tea such as chamomile, hibiscus, lemongrass or linden.

Think Positive

If you keep telling yourself "I'll never get pregnant" then you won't! Replace that negative voice in your head with positive imagery. Visualisation has been shown to have deeply effective, physical benefits for fertility.

Romantic Getaways

A little romantic getaway with your partner can have such a refreshing, reinvigorating and rejuvenating effect on you, your partner and the relationship. It doesn't have to cost a lot, it can even be in your own city but it can be really fun. Enjoy each other!

Stress may be causing an infertility, but with the right stress handling everthing will be oke and you can keep your fertility in the save rate.

Fertility and Nutrition

By Robin Brain
Fertility and Nutrition
Do you want to create your best chance for becoming pregnant? For both women and men, there is a definite link between nutrition and fertility. Sticking with a well-balanced diet boosts your chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby. You should begin making changes to your eating habits at least three months to a year before planning to get pregnant.

Certain vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins C and E and zinc and folic acid, are crucial for creating healthy sperm. Several studies have indicated that deficiencies in zinc can impede both female and male fertility. You should maintain the dietary reference intake (DRI) of 8 mg per day for women over eighteen years and 11 mg per day for men over eighteen to help keep your reproductive system functioning properly. Men who are deficient in folate have been shown to experience a lower number and poorer quality of sperm. Being deficient in certain nutrients may affect a woman's menstrual periods, which makes it more difficult to predict when she is ovulating and the best time for her to get pregnant. Maintaining a diet that includes all of the food groups and living a healthier lifestyle will ensure the most favorable reproductive functioning.

Herbs have also been used for many years to treat all types of health conditions. Today, herbs are even becoming popular as fertility enhancers, and it never hurts to research all of your options. You should always seek the advice of your health-care provider before taking any new supplement, regardless of whether it is "natural" or not. Many health-care professionals are hesitant about herbs, which are not currently regulated by the FDA or the scrutiny of clinical studies, while prescription medications are. In addition, many factors can affect their potency. Some of the most popular herbs used for promoting fertility include vitex angus, black cohosh, dong quai, licorice, Korean ginseng, and pycnogenol.

You should never mix herbs with prescription fertility drugs. Herbs can also interact with other prescription medications, so always speak to your doctor before starting any program that includes herbs. All herbs should be discontinued once you find out you are pregnant.

Keep in mind that some herbs on the market can actually decrease fertility. St. John's Wort, for instance, can decrease sperm motility in men. Do your research and speak with your doctor before taking any herbal supplement.

Early Pregnancy Back Pain

By Albertina Belmont
Early Pregnancy Back Pain
In addition to morning sickness and cramps, early pregnancy back pain is also one of the symptoms experienced by women during pregnancy. There is nothing to worry about back pain during pregnancy as it is quite common among pregnant women and is in fact unavoidable.

Weak Body Frame Causes Back Pain

A weak skeletal system and weak muscles increase the chances of early pregnancy back pain. During pregnancy there is a continuous change in the position of the baby inside the mother's womb. The mother's body also continuously adapts itself to such changes. Proper exercise can make this adaptation much easier for your body. Abdominal muscles require proper exercise to build strong joints around the pelvic region. As abdomen is the place where baby grows, a weak skeletal system can exert a lot of pressure on the muscles in lower back. This extensive pressure can cause pain in the back.

If neglected, this pregnancy back pain, can sustain even after childbirth. The severity of back muscle pain during pregnancy may vary from one person to another. It is seen that strong and healthy women have a better resistance towards back pain in pregnancy. A strong body frame reduces the pressure on back muscles.

Proper Care Required

You can follow the given tips to reduce the severity of your early pregnancy back pain.

Take proper care while performing your daily chores.
Make a point not to over- exert or over- stretch your body.
Be careful of your movements while getting out of bed, sitting in a chair, picking things, etc.
Yoga and meditation can also help you fight a backache during pregnancy.
Following a correct posture and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can treat a mild backache.
Nutritional food is also helpful in reducing pregnancy backache.

The sole purpose behind maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a regular exercise regime is to build a strong body frame, which would ensure a smooth pregnancy and normal delivery. You must take back pain seriously and also take appropriate measures to handle such challenges, which are an inevitable part of pregnancy.

Final Words

Be well prepared to face the challenges which come along with the beautiful experience of being pregnant. Be well informed about the changes taking place in your body and ensure proper care. It is advisable to take necessary measures, to avoid and cure an early pregnancy backache. Do not neglect the backache or else it might want to stay with you for the rest of your life!

Bladder Infections And Pregnancy

By Eddie Tobey
Bladder Infections And Pregnancy
Pregnant women are not more likely than others to get a bladder infection, though if one occurs, there are more chances that it will travel to the kidneys. According to some unconfirmed reports, about 3 to 4 percent of all pregnant women develop a urinary tract infection.

According to doctors, frequent hormonal changes and shifts in the position of the urinary tract during pregnancy make it much easier for bacteria to travel up the urethra to the kidneys than under normal conditions. Due to this reason, it is recommended that the urine of pregnant women be tested periodically.

A pregnant woman who develops a bladder infection needs prompt treatment to avoid premature delivery of her baby and other risks such as high blood pressure. Moreover, it must be kept in mind that some antibiotics are not safe for use during pregnancy. Various factors need to be considered before finalizing the treatment, such as the drug's effectiveness, the stage of pregnancy, the mother's health, and potential effects on the fetus.

Bladder infections during pregnancy require immediate attention and should never be ignored. The infection can become especially complicated by blockage of normal urinary flow and infection elsewhere in the body. It can also become complicated by alarmingly low blood pressure. Any medical conditions during pregnancy that impair the normal urinary flow, such as kidney stones or diseases of the nervous system leading to bladder weakness, can lead to more complicated and severe bladder infections. If the root cause of the infection goes untreated, this group of patients is at risk of kidney damage.

Accurate Weight Loss For Optimum Fertility

By Gabriela Rosa
Accurate Weight Loss For Optimum Fertility

A balanced and healthy body is a fertile body. As more and more studies search for answers about infertility and reproduction; scientists are slowly acknowledging that optimum fertility is not just about the reproductive organs and system--it is a complex process involving various body systems and the mind.

Research found that weight issues are a definite cause of infertility. Both underweight or overweight has a negative impact in fertility. 43% obese women are less likely to get pregnant than normal-weight women. Obesity will cause difficulty conceiving even women who have regular ovulation and menstrual cycles. Even it not clearly, obesity in women is associated with abnormal sex steroids, and abnormal levels of insulin in the blood. That will give rise to more problems such as abnormal periods, higher levels of male hormones, and an abnormal thickening of the uterus lining. One or a combination of these issues could result in infertility. Studies also show that healthy sperm density and parameters of obese males is lower than their healthy counterparts.

So what is the ideal weight and how does one get there?

The relation between body fat and BMI differs with age and gender. Women, for example, are more likely to have a higher percent of body fat than men with the same BMI. On average, older people may have more body fat than younger adults with the same BMI.

As an example:

  • An adult with a BMI of less than 18 is considered to be underweight.
  • An adult with a BMI between 18 and 25 is considered to be of a normal, healthy weight.
  • An adult with a BMI of between 25 and 30 is considered to be overweight.
  • An adult with a BMI of over 30 is considered to be obese.

Although the BMI can be a good guide, when trying to lose weight, keeping track of your body fat percentages is much better than keeping track of total weight because of body fluid variations. Here are the specific guidelines for body fat percentages:

Women: Normal 15-25% | Overweight 25.1-29.9% | Over 30%

Men: Normal 10-20% | Overweight 20.1-24.9 % | Over 25%

Experts suggest that even a weight loss of 5 to 10% can dramatically improve ovulation and chances of pregnancy. The only way to achieve this and stay healthy is avoiding crash diets. Weight loss is really more about a healthy lifestyle, pre-planning and reinforcing new habits than anything else. There is no substitute to eating balanced and nutritious meals and exercising regularly.

Include lots vegetable, fish, chicken, eggs, venison, beef and other quality protein sources.

Reduce some foods that can push body fat and contain of saturated fats like junk foods, fried food and other hydrogenated oils, butter etc.

Have an exercise at least 60 minutes, five to seven times a week; program should include a great cardiovascular workout (elliptical, treadmill, swimming, or low-impact aerobics) and weighted exercises for toning.

Minimize stress. Take up hobbies that increase physical activity and act as stress busters like yoga, or a favorite sport. This prevents build up of 'stress hormones', which can come in the way of losing weight.

Hope this will show you ideal weight to uptime your fertility rate. Be sure to consult a medical professional that you trust and who knows you well so you can get the tips and advice that fit you and your individual needs the best.
